H.E sprinkler

One of the fire suppression equipment is the sprinkler, which is widely used in many centers and buildings. Sprinklers can automatically extinguish fires and prevent the spread of fire. The sprinkler fire suppression system is designed to contain and eventually extinguish the fire by preventing heat and flames from spreading. Sprinklers have a glass bulb or bulb that activates the sprinkler during a fire.

Sprinkler or Water Sprinkler

A sprinkler is a network of pipes that run across the ceiling of a building, holding water under pressure. Each sprinkler is essentially a valve and an opening in the pipe, through which water can flow into the building below the system.

A sprinkler functions like a manual water tap, but with a heat-sensitive plug designed to automatically open during a fire. In some sprinklers, the plug is made from an alloy called wood metal, a mixture of bismuth, lead, tin, and cadmium that melts at a relatively low temperature. In other sprinklers, the plug is a small glass bulb filled with a glycerin-based liquid designed to expand and break when heated.

The basic idea is the same in both cases: the plug breaks as soon as a fire occurs, causing the sprinkler to open.

Fire Sprinkler System Components and Equipment

NFPA 13, in most cases, allows the use of “listed” equipment in fire sprinkler systems, except for those that do not have a significant impact or critical role in the system (such as drain piping, drain valves, and signs).

Common Misconceptions About Fire Sprinkler Systems

Today, there are common misconceptions about fire sprinkler systems that are propagated through media. Sometimes, misleading and harmful information about how these systems work is being shared. Unfortunately, these misconceptions may lead many people to believe that these safety tools are unreliable.

Pipe Layout and Network Types for Sprinklers

The sprinkler pipe network can be implemented in three main ways, with each method chosen based on the building’s status, water source conditions, and entry points.

The three methods are:

  1. Tree or Cross Method: A tree-like pattern with branches extending from a central point.
  2. Looped Method: A circular layout where pipes form a loop.
  3. Gridded Method: A grid-like configuration of pipes.

Hydraulic Calculation for Sprinkler Systems

Hydraulic calculations are used to determine the pipe diameters in a sprinkler network. Using fluid mechanics formulas, the pipe size is determined based on pressure and flow requirements. If software is used, these calculations can be done quickly and accurately. Hydraulic science studies the principles related to fluids in both static and dynamic states. The term “hydrostatics” refers to fluid at rest, while “hydrodynamics” refers to fluid in motion. Since water is the extinguishing agent in sprinkler systems, the system designer must thoroughly understand the nature of water and its movement in the sprinkler pipe network.

History of Sprinklers

The fire sprinkler system is an active fire protection method consisting of a water source that provides the necessary pressure and flow rate for a distribution network of pipes connected to several sprinklers. Historically, these systems were only used in large factories and commercial buildings, but today more affordable options are available for homes and smaller buildings. Over 40 million sprinkler systems are installed worldwide annually, and more than 96% of fires in fully protected buildings are controlled by sprinklers.

Flexible Hose for HE Sprinklers

The flexible hose for HE sprinklers, specifically designed for automatic fire sprinkler systems, was introduced in Iran for the first time. This product was developed by the research and development unit of the company and has received the Iranian National Standard mark.
