When to replace your fire extinguisher
Disposable fire extinguishers that are acceptable for household use and are not rechargeable must be replaced every 12 years. For commercial grade rechargeable extinguishers, consult a licensed fire extinguisher contractor if any of the following conditions are present:
Slow pressure drop considering it has not been used for a long time
- Cracked and blocked nozzles
- Shaky or broken handles
- Lost or broken pin
- A failed hydrostatic test
- Damaged outer shell
- Absence of inspection labels

If your canister is partially or fully charged, call the fire department and ask if they will, otherwise, take the canister to a hazardous waste disposal facility.
If your capsule is empty, press the lever to ensure that no pressure remains inside you. You can contact your energy partner or a recycling center to ask about liquid concentrate disposal.
